Hello fellow MM fans. I'm new here, but not new to the old blue bomber. I actually started playing from the original on NES as a kid, though at the time the first and second games were already released. That should give you some idea of my age. I only like the classic and X series, though far less the latter as I only played those up until X3. The classic series is definitely what I would consider a passion. When Mega Man 10 released a few years ago I started working on a list counting down my favorite Robot Masters of all-time. That took quite a while to finish since I was working on it only here and there. If anyone is interested in reading it though, I'd be happy to share it. It is long, so be aware. I'd also like to know other fans' favorite Robot Masters are in the classic series. I don't expect anyone else to list all of them in order, but a top 10 or even 5 with some details would be great. Anyway, hopefully there will be some interesting discussions on here. EDIT: Here is the link to the thread with my Robot Masters rankings: click here

Welcome to the forums! Sounds like you started about the same time I did (granted that could easily put you plus or minus five years of myself). Many fans favor the Classic and X series, though I do encourage you to at least try X4 (actually, I encourage you to try all the games, but at least X4). For me X4 is the best of the X series games I played. For that matter, when it comes to the Classic series games, did you try any of the Game Boy ones? The first three are merely "okay", but the last two are held in high regard. I haven't played Mega Man IV, but I did play Mega Man V and it out of the classic series games I have played, it may be the best! Oh, and feel free to share your list elsewhere on the site (if you haven't already), and include a link to it here.

Thanks Otaku, I'll definitely have to give X4 a try then. I believe it's available for PS3 on PSN if I'm not mistaken? You and I are in the same boat on the Gameboy classic titles as I've only played V as well. It's a fantastic game, but I still hold the first four on the NES higher. Have you read Hitoshi Ariga's Megamix and Gigamix? I have the entire Megamix series, but I never got all of the Gigamix releases. Oddly enough, I don't have the last two that cover the Stardroids. lol Maybe I'll post that list up tonight and link it here.

Gigamix is extremely worthwhile read. Though its not as tasty as the Copy Mega arc in Megamix. For some reason that arc alone defined that whole manga to me. Welcome Sukaruman, I'm glad to see Otaku was able to get to you first on a hello, he's a pretty loyal swell guy. Even if he dose like games like yu-gi-oh But I do have to agree with him, X4 is soooooo worth the playthrough. For a long time I was unable to rent Megaman Titles and thus I had no lead into the series. I rented it once, and couldn't find it again until after X5 and X6 came out. Then one day X4 arrived at a toy store and like a gift from God I snatched it up with my saved up allowance money(that I was using on the Jazwares figures) and thus I recalled how amazing the game is. The cast is good, the faction known as Repliforce is my all time favorite MM group, and I love some of Zero's essential moves. Pretty much all the X games for PS were the bomb. It could just be the fact that I love me some Megaman and those are nostalgic titles from my youth....

I have not read much for Mega Man; by the time a lot of it was available, disposable income wasn't. =/ So no Megamix and no Gigamix. I do recommend Mega Man X4, though with the caveat that the game originally came out for the PSOne and the Saturn and I played the Saturn version, widely held to be the superior one. I later played it on the GCN version of the Mega Man X Collection; if reports say that re-release is at least close to the original in quality (let alone if they've done anything to improve it) that is great. If it isn't, decide for yourself whether it is worth the risk of trying the game with a less than optimal port. I myself don't know if some of my grievances against and praise for certain titles in the series are because I was indeed playing a re-make or port. ^^'Directly relevant to this discussion would be Mega Man X5 and Mega Man X6. The PSOne was not a system geared towards 2D gaming and at the same time the-powers-that-be at Sony were intentionally shunning a lot of classic 2D games, especially in the West where they thought they could get away with it. As stated with Mega Man X4, the Sega Saturn version was superior to the the PSOne version (and believe me, that was a rare thing pretty much confined to 2D games). The other X series PSOne games are overall unpopular. I enjoyed them, but I also played them as re-releases on the GCN and not when originally released. It has been years since I could play them, and I do like them. They just don't feel like they control quite as well as the previous entries in the series, and some of the mechanics implemented in them plus the translations were not up to the usual quality. Since VileMKII brought it up... "like" is a strong word for how I feel about the Yu-Gi-Oh TCG. I was very into it when it first came out and for many years wrote about the game for the Pojo website (and the occasional magazine... remember magazines? ). I officially dropped the game back in 2009 because I just couldn't afford to keep up even minimally via the Nintendo DS games. A friend really wanted me to try it again and... sure enough unless we were playing with Structure Deck versus Structure Deck (a kind of pre-constructed theme deck of a higher quality than what players outside of Japan initially received) I hated it. I don't like the direction they took the game and was a vocal critic of it while I was playing. I like TCGs (as well as pen & paper RPGs) but I don't play a lot of any of these things right now. The main exception is the Pokémon Trading Card Game Online and even that has me often lamenting the direction that TCG has taken over the years.

I'll still give X4 a try at the least once I have some extra spending cash. I've also been looking at the PS3 version of Maverick Hunter X. You can still get Megamix and Gigamix on Amazon for a little less than the standard price once you have the cash. That's what I did. Never too late to the party.
I've also added a link to that Robot Masters ranking thread in the first post.
