It's been a while since the fourms went down. However, that doesn't mean we've been idle in playing Mega Man games. So what have you done since the fourms went down? What did you play for the first time? What did you replay after a long while? (Or if you're new here, read the thread title as "In the past year...")
To start out:
Street Fighter X Mega Man
I'm still not sure if this should count as an "official" game, or just a fan-made game that got a little fan-fare. At any rate, I thought this was just...ok. The concept is fun, but aside from that, the game did little to grab me. Most of the stages are short, and the game is rather buggy (at least the first version).
Project X Zone
(I later found out that you're somehow suppose to read "X Zone" as "Cross Zone"). The big crossover game with X, Zero, Tron Bonne, the Servbots, Vile and (a certain somebody that counts as spoilers for those that haven't played this yet). It was alright, but it takes a very loooong time to go through (50-60 hrs), so I was rather tired of it towards the end. Tron is in early on, but X and Zero don't show up until about halfway, so there's a lot to go through if you're just interested in the Mega Man aspects.
Rockman Exe 4.5 Real Operations
I actually started this before the fourms went down, but didn't get far, so I'm counting this here. I couldn't get far at first because the internal timer was not working. As it turned out, the reason was because the battery was dying. The battery being the root cause wasn't apparent to me at first, since the game still saved. After changing it (first time I ever changed a game pak battery, I might add), everything worked fine, and I was able to go through the game. Anyway, the game has an interesting idea, but I wouldn't want to try the whole "real time clock" system again. The game is, in theory, rather short, but it takes weeks to go through, since you have to do certain things on the weekends, then wait for a weekday to continue, then wait for another weekend, then another weekday... One highlight is that there are loads of Navis you can play as, though from what I understand, you need an accessory called the Battle Chip Gate to unlock most of them (I don't have this, and there doesn't appear to be any on ebay).
Mega Man Battle Network 5 (Team Colonel version)
I thought this was much improved over BN4. You can get all the Soul Unions in one game play, you don't have to replay the game three times to get everything, and you get to play as other Navis beside Mega Man. Otherwise, I thought the quality was about the same as the other Battle Network games (though the liberation mission stuff takes some getting used to).
Mega Man Battle Network 6 (Cybeast Falzar)
A terrific game, and one of the best in the Battle Network series. The refinements they made here goes a long way, and they brought back the idea of playing as other Navis.
Mega Man Star Force (Leo)
Now I get to say that I have played at least one game of each of the seven sub-series. Anyway, this game struck me as "Battle Network reworked", kinda like how the ZX games are "Zero series reworked". The one major change is that the battles are now in 3D, rather than a 3x9 grid. Decent, but it also means there's no major surprises. Still, if you liked Battle Network, you'll probably like this, unless you hate how they changed the battle system. I thought this one was easier than the typical Battle Network game. The shield is easier to use, dodging attacks is much simpler (since you can only move left or right), and using sword attacks is much easier, now that there's a lock-on system.
That's as far as I got right now. I'll get to Star Force 2 and 3 sometimes.
