I've been interested in getting Mega Man Anniversary Collection for a good while and now that I sold my copy of Mega Man 7 (PAL version), I decided that it would be a good time to get it (especially since I got enough to buy it on the GC, or both it and X Collection on the PS2). What I don't know is which version should I get. I see there are arranged tracks in the PS2 and Xbox versions, but are they optional? I'd prefer to have the NES soundtrack in its fullest, so if it's not optional, then it's the GameCube version I'm getting.
I'm planning to emulate the games, so the Xbox version is out of question.

I owned the GameCube version of both the Mega Man Anniversary Collection and The Mega Man X Collection. I've been told the sound compression is wonky on the later games (never played the originals so I wouldn't know) in The Mega Man Anniversary Collection (so like 7&8) but I never got to play the originals for those entries. =P
What I do know is that the controls for the GCN version of the Mega Man Anniversary Collection annoying switch the "Jump" and "Fire" buttons from their usual places, because someone thought it would be easier to do it that way for the GCN controller. They were wrong, but after playing it for a bit I got used to it and could even do okay switching back and forth between those controls and those on Mega Man & Bass for the GBA. As for your big question about sound, I thought the GCN version had the originals, but it has been so long I'd check for a video on Youtube to give it a listen.

In the end, I decided to import the PS2 version. (before your reply, though)
The controls wouldn't be a problem for me; as I said, I will be emulating it, so I can change controls whenever I want, though the GC version does have a patch on RHDN to switch them up. I wasn't sure if the PS2 version had both soundtracks, but someone checked for me and turning Navi mode on gives me arranged tracks. Not that I'd ever use them, but it's nice to have the option.
It should arrive anytime soon. Now I just have to sell my CIB Mega Man 8 (PAL) to get funds for the rest of the collections (especially the Zero one, I need that in my life).

Unfortunately, the PS2 version is the only one of the three that lacks the sweet Mega Man documentary.

Yes, but I can probably watch that on YouTube.
Being limited to emulation, the Xbox (from my understanding, best) version was kind of a no-no. I'd rather have remixed music instead of a documentary.
and hey, just a week after I receive it, Capcom announces an inferior collection! What are the chances?

There are (supposed to be) features in it that the old Anniversary Collection lacks. It is certainly a smaller, more limited collection. No arguing that!

I can confirm that the Gcn collection has the original music for the nes games, sinse I bought it for that reason, also being a fan of big arcade sticks, playing on my x arcade stick getting used to the new button config isn't a problem. Then again , I admit I didn't have much choice with what collection I bought sinse I didn't own and still do not own a Ps2, but do have and still have a working gamecube with Gba player attached.
Sinse I now have both x and aniversary collection, mega man & bass, all the zero games for the Gba and the two mega man Xtreme titles, my Gcn is sort of my Mega man machine (at least until I can actually track down a copy of Wily wars for my Mega drive).
I'd love copies of the other for mm gb games too, (I have the first but that is it).
Then again I admit my console choices are definitely more limited than most people's.
